Adult Class
Our adult class is for students ages 12 and older. This class focuses on beginning and advanced Taekwondo skills including: Techniques, Poomse (Forms), Sparring, and Self-defense. Upper belt students (red belt and higher) are often expected to work independently and develop leadership skills by helping with the youth class.
Techniques
Techniques combine both the hands and feet for striking, blocking, and defensive purposes. They are taught systematically and progressively as students advance through their training. Mastery of these techniques requires consistent practice, proper form, and attention to detail.
Students are encouraged to always prioritize safety and control when practicing their techniques.
Poomse (Forms)
Poomse, also known as forms, are choreographed sequences of movements that simulate defense and attack techniques against imaginary opponents. Poomse is an integral part of training and serves several purposes, including developing technique, balance, focus, and mental discipline.
Gup (color belt) level students must master Kibon, Taegeuk, and Palgwe Poomses for Black Belt level advancement.
Sparring
Sparring is a fundamental aspect of training and competition in Taekwondo. It involves students engaging in controlled combat using a combination of kicks, punches, and defensive techniques. Matches are governed by modified USAT rules. These rules dictate permissible techniques, scoring criteria, penalties, and match duration.
Sparring is only practiced under strict supervision to help mitigate risk of injury.
Self-defense
Self-defense incorporates scenario-based drills to simulate real-life threatening situations. Students practice responding to various attacks, including grabs, chokes, and strikes, under controlled conditions to develop necessary skills and reflexes.
Self-defense equips students with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to protect themselves effectively in dangerous situations.
