Youth Class

Our youth class is for students ages 6 to 12. This class typically focuses on introducing students to the fundamental aspects of the martial art while emphasizing basic techniques (stances, punches, kicks, and blocks), terminology, and etiquette. Students will learn about the importance of bowing, showing respect to instructors and fellow students, and following dojo etiquette. They will also learn about the 5 Tenets of Taekwondo: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-control, and Indomitable Spirit.

techniques

Techniques combine both the hands and feet for striking, blocking, and defensive purposes. They are taught systematically and progressively as students advance through their training. Mastery of these techniques requires consistent practice, proper form, and attention to detail.

Students are encouraged to always prioritize safety and control when practicing their techniques.

Poomse (forms)

Poomse, also known as forms, are choreographed sequences of movements that simulate defense and attack techniques against imaginary opponents. Poomse is an integral part of training and serves several purposes, including developing technique, balance, focus, and mental discipline.

Gup (color belt) level students must master Kibon, Taegeuk, and Palgwe Poomses for belt level advancement.

Sparring

Sparring is a fundamental aspect of training and competition in Taekwondo. It involves students engaging in controlled combat using a combination of kicks, punches, and defensive techniques. Matches are governed by modified USAT rules. These rules dictate permissible techniques, scoring criteria, penalties, and match duration.

Sparring is only practiced under strict supervision to help mitigate risk of injury.

Youth Testing Requirements for advancement
